A media-buyer friend of mine was venting to me the other day.

Every time he spins up a new TikTok Lead Generation campaign, he said, the most annoying part isn't picking the audience or setting the budget — it's building the form.

What questions to ask, what order to put them in, how to attach the privacy policy, whether to collect phone numbers or email addresses... by the time you're done, half the day is gone.

"You've probably missed that AIGC feature inside TikTok Ads Manager, haven't you?" I told him.

He blinked. What's AIGC?

AIGC, in Short: The AI Does the Work for You

AIGC stands for AI-Generated Content. But inside TikTok, in this scenario, it doesn't write articles and it doesn't generate images.

What it generates is your Instant Form and your automated Direct Message chat template.

You hand it a URL. It reads your website, then uses AI to assemble a form that already matches TikTok's recommended format — question order, layout, all thought through for you.

"Sounds too good to be true?" he said.

Think about it this way, I told him. Before this, building a form meant passing TikTok's review, aligning with the platform's format specs, and guessing which question order would convert best. All of that grunt work, the AI now does in the background. What you get back is a draft that's already cleared the common pitfalls.

That's the core problem AIGC is trying to solve — swapping human repetitive manual labor in the setup stage for AI's automatic generation.

Three Capabilities, Each More Powerful Than the Last

TikTok designed three ways to use AIGC. Let me walk through them one by one.

The first: turn your website form into a TikTok Instant Form.

When you're building a Lead Generation campaign, set the optimization objective to "Instant Form + Website" or to "Instant Form" alone, then paste in your website page link.

TikTok's AI will read your site and automatically generate an Instant Form that matches your brand and your campaign goals.

Once you have it, you can edit it — reorder questions, change the layout, update the privacy policy. Or, if it's good enough, just use it as-is.

One detail worth noting: if this is your very first Lead Generation campaign, the AI will not auto-generate a form for you — you'll have to build one manually, or actively hand it a URL and let it run. But if you've built forms before, the system will automatically attach the most recent one you used within the last 90 days.

The second: translate an existing Instant Form into a Direct Message chat template.

This one saves even more work.

You select both "Instant Form" and "TikTok Direct Message" as optimization objectives. If you've been using forms all along but have never run a Direct Message (DM) campaign, TikTok will go ahead and translate the last form you used into a DM chat flow — it even carries over the multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

You don't have to build a conversation flow from scratch.

There are some requirements, of course. Your form has to meet a few conditions: phone number and email have to be collected using TikTok's standard Personal Information Questions (PIQs), not custom questions; it can't use conditional logic; and the form has to have already passed review.

There's one more thing — if both phone number and email are in the form, the AI only carries over the phone number and ignores the email. It can only convert one of the two, and it picked the phone number.

So what happens if your form doesn't qualify and can't be converted?

TikTok falls back to using the best-performing template in your industry as a safety net. You still save more than half of the manual work.

The third: end-to-end, all in one breath.

This one's the big one. Inside Multiple Location Selection, you check Website, Instant Form, and TikTok Direct Message all at once, and AIGC starts from your website, generates the form first, then generates the DM chat flow from the form.

One chain, fully automated. What you get is a complete lead-gen plan that spans multiple touchpoints, with manual intervention dialed down to the minimum.

Any Catches?

I've talked up the good parts — I should also cover the limits.

Right now AIGC only understands static website forms. If your site uses conditional logic (like "show question B only if they pick A"), the AI can't handle it.

After a DM template is generated, you can edit it any time — when you're done, hit Review to check it once more before publishing.

If you'd rather not use the AI-generated template at all, there's a way out: click "Convert from form" to swap in another existing form, or click "Create New" to build one completely from scratch.

What the AI gives you is a starting point, not a dead end.

At the End of the Day

My friend was quiet for a moment after all this. Then he said: so what was I doing, spending half a day at a time building forms?

I said: consider it tuition.

Technology has always done one thing — taking something that used to require a human grinding away for hours, and turning it into a machine handing you a decent draft in a few seconds. You've gone from "build from scratch" to "review and fine-tune." The time you save, you redirect to optimizing audiences, tuning bids, dreaming up creative — the things that actually need a human brain.

TikTok baking AIGC into Instant Forms is, at the end of the day, saving advertisers one whole step in the process. For big teams it's a cherry on top; for the solo media buyers juggling everything themselves, it might be the difference between getting two extra hours of sleep or not.

Before vs after: half a day of manual form building becomes a few seconds of reviewing an AI draft
